An Introduction to the Veterinary Industry

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to change your career and enter the veterinary industry? Here one of our Client Relations team members, Courtney, details her experiences and what she has learnt.

“My connection with AdelaideVet began 14 years ago when I adopted my very first cat from their adoption program. Late last year I was excited to get offered a job at AdelaideVet, and having been a client for many years, it was exciting to be given the opportunity to work here as a team member. As an animal lover, it has been a very educational time looking into what goes on behind the scenes of animal care.

I am constantly impressed by the high-level duty of care shown by everyone here, from both a professional and a personal aspect. I have learned a great deal from working with such an amazing group of people, such as diagnostic techniques, the roles certain medications play, the importance of puppy preschool, how beneficial regular health checks for your pets can be and just how much care and compassion goes into every case.

Of course, this is not an easy industry as there are many emergencies and emotional situations that arise. Working here has significantly increased my resilience through dealing with difficult cases, the ability to counsel our clients during a tough time in their lives, and how to work with the team to ensure everything runs smoothly and reaches the best possible outcome.

There are of course many happy and triumphant times that really makes this industry wonderful, from seeing all the new patients, both young and old, that love to come in for their check-ups, to the patients that have fought hard through their battles and come back brighter and better than before. Those are the times that fill my heart with the utmost joy.

As someone who has come from a Retail Management background, it’s been an eye-opening experience to work in Client Relations for Adelaide Vet. It has been an unforgettable chapter in my life. I have nothing but gratitude and respect for the people who work here, how they have looked after myself and my beloved pets has helped me to sing their praises and be able to trust them with animal care to the highest regard."
