Cleo is a beautiful 1-year-old Ridgeback cross who came for an unexpected visit to Carine. Cleo presented in the morning after passing two puppies the night before but was, unfortunately, struggling to deliver the rest. At the time, Cleo was 7 months old and had just experienced her first heat. This meant that she was more susceptible to being mated and becoming pregnant.

Dr Chris Tan proceeded with an ultrasound to see how many puppies were remaining and discovered that there were 5 puppies. It was urgent that they were delivered as soon as possible. All hands were on deck in ensuring all of the puppies were delivered so they could return to Cleo once she had recovered from surgery. With the help of Dr Rob and the staff, Dr Chris performed his first-ever Caesarian and delivered 5 healthy pups. The puppies were monitored closely by the nursing staff until going home with Cleo later that evening.

At the time of the caesarian, Cleo underwent a sterilisation procedure to prevent her from having more puppies. This procedure involves the removal of the ovaries and uterus and reduces the risk of mammary tumours, cancers of the uterus, ovaries and cervix and prevents the development of pyometra which is a bacterial infection of the uterus. Cleo recovered very well from surgery and was moving about before she went home with her puppies.

Cleo and her healthy puppies returned for their 8-week microchip and vaccination health check and were all doing very well, since then, all the puppies have now gone to new loving homes.
