Getting to know Andrew Abood, Veterinary Nurse & Animal Caretaker

This month we bring you an employee profile for Andrew Abood. Andrew works predominantly at our Goodwood Road Clinic and in his time outside work swims competitively.

Andrew grew up in New South Wales and joined our team in 2015 after relocating from Sydney to train with top trainer Peter Bishop at the Marion Swimming Club. In his life prior to AdelaideVet, Andrew worked at Bondi Junction Vet Hospital with Dr Chris Brown and even made some appearances on the TV show Bondi Vet.

Andrew started swimming competitively at the age of six and has since then swam at a state, national and international level. He is currently the 7th fastest Australian of all time!

Andrew moved to Adelaide to pursue a chance at qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games unfortunately, he missed qualification by approximately .10 of a second but did gain selection to travel to California, USA where he competed at the Arena Pro Swim Series and

finished 4th in the 50m freestyle. The three men ahead of Andrew all won medals at the Rio Olympics. Andrew is now preparing for the short course season (25m pool). He recently travelled to Singapore and Tokyo to represent Australia at the FINA world cup swimming events where his team came first in the mixed freestyle relay! At the time of writing this article, he was in Brisbane to race at the Australian Short Course Championships where he hopes to qualify for the World Short Course Championships in Canada later this year.

As you can see Andrew keeps himself very busy, but while he is at work he loves meeting all the different animals that come in, whether domestic or wild. He also enjoys dog training and is currently training his dog Billy to open a pedal bin and put rubbish in it!
