Goodwood Open Day

In May 2020, the team at Goodwood Road took our first walk through the newly fitted-out building that used to be a mitre10 warehouse. With mouths agape, we explored the huge space; the stunning surgical theatre, expansive reception, Doggy Daycare, beautiful cattery, and immaculate treatment areas. It was everything we had hoped for… and more!

Sadly, at the time, COVID-19 restrictions meant that we were not able to open the doors to the community to show off the amazing new development and our plans for a grand opening gala were placed on hold. However, a year and a bit later, a first birthday party was the perfect excuse to invite the local community to come and see how we have settled into the space and to show off the clinic, Cats in the City cattery and Doggy Daycare.

The weather on Sunday 12th September threatened high winds and rain so some creative thinking allowed for everything to be set up inside, including a bouncy castle in Doggy Daycare! Our regular daycare dogs who visited throughout the day quickly forgave the intrusion when they saw their favourite canine educators and the agility course they had set up for them.

The day included guided tours, clicker training intro classes, face painting and lots of goodies. Chatting with wildlife carers and meeting tiny little Belle the koala was a highlight for many. Seeing Lions Hearing Dog “River” show off her training was very inspiring for others, as she responded to different sounds to alert her trainer of potential dangers.

Unsurprisingly, the most popular and exciting event was the best dressed and best trick competitions! Who knew we had such talented dogs (and trainers) in our community? We had dogs doing all sorts of clever tricks including unrolling a yoga mat and riding a skateboard! Not to be outdone, our more glamourous hounds took to the spotlight dressed as pineapples, gangsters, zebras and more. The clear winner though… a tiny little puppy in a chicken suit sitting in a KFC bucket! Absolute perfection!

We were excited to offer a Total Wellness Plan as a raffle prize valued at up to $910! Daniel Agent was the lucky winner and his furbaby will receive a free year of preventative health care including consultations, vaccinations and parasite prevention. Jasmin Gobbett was a winner too, taking home an AdelaideVet gift basket filled with lots of great pet stuff and treats for her lucky pets.

All of us at AdelaideVet felt so proud to welcome you into our workplace and show you more about how we use this amazing facility, it was such a fun day. Oh, and the highlight for the Goodwood Rd staff…..? Of course, we loved chatting with our regular clients and their pets, but we’d be lying if we didn’t say our highlight was the extra half hour we spent together on the jumpy castle after everyone else had gone!
