Sonny's big adventure!
Sonny the cocker spaniel gave his paw-rents a fright after making an out of character escape during a walk at a local bike park in late July.
The 18-month-old cocker spaniel set his sights on the horizon and zoomed off, seeking an adventure! This left his poor mum, veterinary nurse Bridget from AdelaideVet Stirling, beside herself with worry.Â
After lots of searching, nurse Bridget posted pleas online for the public to keep an eye out for the adorable adventurer, hoping someone could help her reunite with him.
A member of the public shared that they had sighted Sonny running on a nearby freeway, and if that wasn’t terrifying enough news, someone else reported they had seen (and heard!) him be hit by a car!
Bridget and her family continued the desperate search for Sonny, with so many members of the fantastic Adelaide Hills community coming together to assist, even utilising other dogs and drones to increase their efforts. After nearly 24 hours of searching, assuming Sonny to be injured and alone on a cold winter's night, they were no closer to locating him and Bridget and her family’s hearts were heavy wondering if they would ever see him again.
The next evening, with searchers still looking and family friends holding down the fort at home with the kids and some takeaway food, a scratching was heard coming from the front door! It was Sonny! Literally knocking on the door to come back in!
After lots of celebration (and a few sneaky prawn crackers being fed to the hungry survivor) Sonny settled back in with his loving family and has hopefully decided his days of adventuring are over.
Bridget brought Sonny into his friends at AdelaideVet Stirling for a once over with Dr Connor to make sure he hadn't suffered any injuries on his travels, but miraculously, despite being clipped by a fast moving car, Sonny just had some aches and pains and was sent home with pain relief to keep him comfortable and help him rest.
The whole Stirling team were so happy to see little Sonny safe and sound after hearing all about his escapades. Sonny was greeted with lots of treats and cuddles from all the team, so relieved he was home safe.
Sonny looked like nothing had ever gone awry and seemed thrilled with the attention and all the goodies – not even one of his beautiful long lashes was out of place!
